All there is to know about condoms.
A condom is a method of contraception, but it is also an efficient way to help prevent the spreading of the HIV virus and other sexually transmissible diseases.
Why should you use a condom to protect yourself?
Condom, rubber, prophylactic - whichever name you use, the condom is the only method to protect yourself against sexually transmissible diseases, specifically HIV. The condom is also a method of contraception. As a comparison, the birth control pill does not protect you from HIV or any other STDs. So, for your peace of mind and for pleasure, use a condom at each sexual encounter with penetration. It is also recommended to use a male condom while engaging in oral sex (fellatio, cunnilingus). For those who are allergic to latex, there are condoms made of polyurethane or with reduced latex content (DUREX Avanti, CEYLOR ultra-finl), and for those who think that condoms reduce sensations, try the textured or anatomic condoms (CONDOMI Stimulation, DUREX Pleasure max).
Take care, condoms are not 100% effective as they can tear or slide, so please follow the following advice to maximise your protection.
Here are ten good reasons to wear a condom, as they are efficient to fight against the spreading of AIDS and other contagious sexual diseases:.

Hepatitis
Genital Herpes
Human papillomavirus

How do you use a condom correctly? Here’s how:
- First of all you should check the package, which should have some air in it. Pressing on the package slightly should allow you to tell if it is still ok. Open it with your fingers, using the tear-off aid provided for opening. Do not use pointed or sharp objects to open the condom. If you think you might have broken it, take a new one and start over. Make sure you have enough extra condoms.

- Pull the foreskin back before putting the condom on. Squeeze the air out of the condom by pinching the reservoir with your thumb and index before placing it on the tip of the penis. Put the condom on the penis the right side up, that is, with the ring turned outwards. If it is not on properly, you will have trouble unrolling it correctly.

- If the condom doesn’t unroll easily, or there is some air still inside, take a new condom and start again. Unroll the condom all the way down the penis keeping some pressure on the reservoir. The condom should unroll easily between the thumb and the index. If a condom is too tight or has folds then it is not the right size. A condom that is too tight doesn’t stay on and is likely to break, while a condom that is too big will not stay on either and is likely to slip off (and might stay inside the vagina or anus). You should choose the size that fits you best. As it is not always easy to put on a condom, make this activity as pleasurable as possibly by perhaps including it as part of the foreplay with your partner. You can use as much lubricant as you want, as this will lessen the feeling of tightness inside the condom and the risk of tearing. You can also add a drop of lubricant inside the condom or directly on the penis before putting on the condom, then on the condom itself and/or on the opening that will be penetrated. Using lubricant is highly recommended for anal penetration. Only use water-based (hydro soluble) or silicone lubricants, as oil-based lubricants (lotions, creams, Vaseline, etc) attack the latex and increase the likelihood of tearing. The condom should not slide during intercourse or after ejaculation. As the penis loses its erection quickly after orgasm, it is important to come out as quickly as possible.

- When you are going to slide out, maintain a firm hold on the base of the condom. If the condom slipped during the sexual encounter, it was probably too tight and you will need to use a larger one next time. As condoms can only be used once, throw the used condoms away after having knotted them.

IMPORTANT: It is advised to apply lubricant to condoms at each vaginal or anal sexual encounter to decrease the likelihood of tearing. Only water-based or silicone lubricants are 100% compatible with condoms.
This application is simple: before penetration all you have to do is place a dab of lubricant at the opening of the orifice and some on the condom. For better lubrification, you can use your fingers to apply personal lubricant in the anus or vagina.
For even more pleasure, you can add a drop of gel on the penis or at the bottom of the condom before putting it on as this ensures a more agreeable contact with the latex. If your partner enjoys cold sensations, you can place your dosette or tube of lubricant in a cool place and take it out at the last moment or, on the contrary, warm the dosette or tube between your hands before applying the gel.
Stocking condoms.
The ideal temperature for stocking condom is between 5C et 25C. Intense heat or cold accelerates the deterioration of condoms. Avoid too high temperature changes.
History of Condoms.
Whatever you may think, the condom is not a modern invention. The history of condoms goes back thousands of years, all the way to the times of Ancient Egypt, where it was used to protect against diseases and infections, just like today.
Two possible explanations exist for the origin of the term condom. It could be derived from the Latin word condus, meaning receptacle, or it could come from the name of England’s King Charles II’s doctor, Dr. Condom (or Quondam) who made him sheaths out of animal gut. |
